Every month we bring you #chellacast — A contemporary art+culture podcast.

Jesika von Rabbit(aka “The Queen of the Hi-Desert”) is an artist, singer, songwriter, musician and entertainer. Her second solo album “Dessert Rock” is an avalanche of appetizing amalgams that incorporate hints of calypso, sci-fi, psychedelic, rock, electro and funk.

“I’ve always been into music since I came out of the womb… I started taking piano lessons when I was five and I loved music immediately. It was always around my house.”

“I knew from a very young age that’s what I wanted to do. So I was lucky in that way, I knew that was my journey.”

“It wasn’t till I moved to Minneapolis after high school and I started getting into bands. I had an all girl punk band called the porn flakes for a brief moment there.”

“It wasn’t actually until I moved to Joshua Tree that I met my ex band mate and we formed my old band Graham Rabbit and did that for a little over 10 years or so.”

“I like to create a whole vibe, you know. I like it to kind of be a party on stage and to take people out of their normal reality.”

“I love the landscape. I love that you can be at the ocean or you can be in the desert and then you can see the mountains. I think there’s a little bit of everything here and the people are really, I feel like I run into a lot of like warm, friendly people here. I mean, there’s all types, but I just like the vibe in California. I think it’s beautiful state.”
