The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court has dismissed a PIL seeking a direction for cancelling the public exhibition certificate of Bollywood producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Ram Leela – Goliyon Ki Rasleela on the ground that it “hurt” religious sentiments.
“The petition has been rendered infructuous since the cinematographic film has been released for public exhibition. The petition is, accordingly, dismissed”, the court observed. A division bench of chief justice DY Chandrachud and justice Shree Narain Shukla passed the order on Monday on a PIL filed by IPS officer Amitabh Thakur and another person in 2013.
The petitioners had sought quashing of the public exhibition certificate of the film granted by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
