Sagano

I love the Clarkston location of Sagano, but was out in Fenton with friends and decided to try this location. I was honestly disappointed in the quality of our service and the cleanliness of the restaurant.

When we first arrived, we were the only people at the table and a couple of our friends went to the bathroom. Our server came and asked my other friend and I if our friends in the bathroom were okay, which came off strange to me. Then she politely told us she needed to put the order in now, and asked us to text our friends and see what they wanted. I get having to put the food in under a certain amount of time, but then they sat 6 more people at our table. I found this confusing and rude because our friends had not even looked at the menu and the people who had just arrived still had to look at the menu too, so I didn't understand why we were being rushed.

Our chef was about to start cooking and dropped the spatula on the ground. He picked it up and instead of sanitizing it, wiped it with a rag and began to cook. The food was great, I ordered the steak and shrimp lunch.

One of my friends finished her coke and asked for a new one. She had put a piece of lettuce that fell onto the table into the cup because it was empty, assuming she'd get be getting a new cup. Instead, the server brought her back the same cup with the lettuce piece floating on top. I thought it was unsanitary to not fill up a fresh cup.

At the end of our dining experience, one of my friends had left the table and our server walked up and looked at her receipt and out loud in front of my other friend and I insulted her tip. She had tipped 15% and I felt it was unnecessary to say this out loud in front of the customer.

I don't think I would come back to this location.

So we stood outside awaiting their opening time of 3pm on a Sunday. We could see people being seated inside. The door was still locked. Not being from the area, I did not know there was a rear door. After about 15 minutes and seeing customers being seated, we made the trek around back. Walking in, we saw the sign to go to the hostess station by the front entrance. The hosted was a little embarrassed that they forgot to unlock the door. We were seated immediately and waited on. We did not sit on the hibachi side. The waitress was great. The kitchen does need to work on delivery of the order of the meal to get better grouping. I ordered an appetizer and an entree. My wife ordered an entree and a sushi roll. I watched her eat her sushi roll while awaiting my appetizer. Mine finally came. Then my entree arrived and she watched me eat. Hers arrived as I was finishing. Overall, food was good. My yakisoba noodles we still clumped together and cold in spots.

Good service, good food, excellent wait staff. Just work on the little things.

I used to love saganos. I don't know what happened. Do not eat here. Had a friend who worked here and cleanliness is lacking.
Best sushi around is in Brighton. Drive. Don't waste your money here

Remember Pretty Woman, the movie. How those women in the shop made her feel trying to buy a dress? That is exactly how I felt last night when I called to inquire about reservations and was scoffed at by the girl answering the phone. She was so rude. I was immediately transported to High School and getting snubbed by the Cheerleaders.
Perhaps, you should take a trip to Bluefin Steak House in Howell and learn some hospitality. As Julia Roberts said in the movie...

This is close to the perfect meal, in my opinion. The dressing on the salad is my favorite salad dressing ever. It's light but a little sweet and the flavor tastes like peanuts to me. The clear soup is so simple but it's the best. The hibachi chef did a great job and everything came out perfect. I mix my vegetables and rice with yum yum sauce and it's the best! Trust me. And the noodles were fantastic. I got the filet mignon and scallop combo and they were cooked perfectly.

Food didn't have much flavor to it, portions were small. Service was the best thing at the restaurant.

We loved the Brighton location & went constantly when it was open. Decided to try the Fenton location. So disappointed. The food was so salty we barely ate it. The lettuce in the salad was so wilted & soggy. I will say the sushi was decent. The menu doesn't have the same choices the other restaurant had & the menu itself is super small & hard to read. Our waitress never said her name, looked like she hated her job, barely came back to the table to check on things & wasn't in a good mood at all. We watched the chef clean the grill after cooking & it was still disgustingly dirty. It was not cleaned very well at all. The other tables were also very dirty. Our chef was pretty entertaining though. If it wasn't for him the whole meal would've been a bust. We won't go back again. Will travel to Benihana instead.

The chefs need to be more mindful when cleaning the grills in front of customers. I was there last week with my boyfriend and when the chef was cleaning the grill after he cooked the food, I was sitting at an end seat and while he was brushing the grill off he flung a ton of grease at me and now I have a ruined shirt with 20 little grease spots on it. Though it didn't burn me much it still upsets me. Everything else though was amazing.

2nd time ordering takeout where it was nasty. Rice wasn't cooked, vegetables were extremely salty, and the shrimp was overcooked. Also tried the dumpling and Alaskan soup and the Alaskan soup looked like it was out of a sci-fi movie. Both soups were gross. For $80 I expect way better. I'm extremely frustrated.
