With artists releasing songs at a fast and furious pace it’s difficult for the average hip-hop head to keep track of it all—no matter how tapped in they are. That’s why we created The Ones, a daily post to highlight the song you need to hear curated by the Levels team. We sort through all the new songs—across all the platforms and subgenres—so you don’t have to. Thank us later.

Sada Baby - “WWF”

As the New Year’s clock struck midnight, I imagine Sada Baby wasn’t celebrating, and instead he was at the seat of a desktop he bought the same year the Pistons won a ring uploading his latest mixtape to DatPiff, Spinrilla, and YouTube. Arguably the premier rapper in one of hip-hop’s richest cities, for some reason Sada Baby is trying his best to avoid major streaming services. I’m sure the purpose is for creative control, the ability to release music at the manic pace that made him pop in Detroit. Hopefully that approach doesn’t make the music go overlooked, since so many listeners assume whatever isn’t on Spotify or Apple Music should be classified as throwaways. On “WWF,” Sada Baby is in his comfort zone, piecing together his run-on sentences, grunting ad-libs, and nostalgic pop culture references like only he can. With music this consistent, it’s worth it to download a DatPiff app that hasn’t been updated since the Obama era.
