From April 1, 2023, to December 31, 2024, South Korea extends a special exemption from K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization) to select countries and regions as part of its support for “Visit Korea Year (2023 ~ 2024).” This temporary waiver makes traveling to South Korea even more accessible for eligible travelers.

K-ETA is an online system that allows travelers to secure their travel authorization in advance, enabling visa-free entry to South Korea. Travelers from countries listed in the K-ETA Eligible Nationalities are required to apply for K-ETA and obtain approval before their trip. What’s Next?

After submitting your application, you can sit back and relax! Within 72 hours, you’ll receive an email about your K-ETA status. It could be approved, pending further review, or, in some cases, rejected.

KETA (K-ETA) Approval and Validity

Once you’re approved, you’ll get a K-ETA number and a QR code. Just keep these handy – either printed out or saved on your mobile device – and present them along with your passport when you check-in for your flight and at the immigration checkpoint in Korea.

Remember, K-ETA is valid for three years (or two years if applied before July 3, 2023) from the date of approval or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. This allows for multiple entries into Korea for stays not exceeding 30~90 days (depending on your country).

Things to Keep in Mind

K-ETA approval doesn’t guarantee entry into Korea, as the final decision is made by immigration officials. If your personal or passport details change, you’ll need to apply for a new K-ETA.
