The 17th world championship of Indoors Athletics started this Thursday in Birmingham, England.
600 athletes from 150 countries of the world will compete in Birmingham Arena for 4 days, until Sunday, when some of the main finals will be held.
Albania will be represented by only one sportswoman, Luiza Gega, who will compete for the 1500 meters race.
Gega took her trip with a series of critics to the Albanian Federation of Athletics and the government, saying on Instagram that she had to pay for her own uniform. As soon a she arrived in England, she reiterated the difficult conditions in which she had been training in Albania.
Balkan Champion Izmir Smajlaj will visit the championship only as guest, after being recommended by his doctor to rest.
