Webinar: IESO initiatives

Activities are underway to develop and implement the long-term procurement process for new and expanded facilities to meet Ontario’s emerging reliability needs. This initiative is currently comprised of the Long-Term Request for Proposals (LT1 RFP) as well as the Expedited Process (E-LT1 RFP) for which the proposal deadline has passed. The LT1 RFP in addition to the expedited procurement process “the Expedited Process” (E-LT1 RFP) and the Same Technology Upgrade Solicitation for which the deadline for proposals has passed, will combine to procure a target of 4,000 MW.

Together, these procurements are expected to competitively procure year-round effective capacity from dispatchable new build resources that can deliver a continuous amount of electricity to a connection point on a distribution system or transmission system for at least four consecutive hours.

In advance of the Expedited Process and the LT1 RFP, the IESO issued the Long-Term Request for Qualifications (LT1 RFQ) to establish a list of applicants with the experience and capability to successfully develop, construct and operate facilities acquired through these procurements. The LT1 RFQ is now complete, and the list of Qualified Applicants is now available.

This engagement will provide interested parties with an opportunity to learn about and offer input for consideration into the procurement processes as it pertains to communities.

Engaging with municipalities and Indigenous communities is integral to the success of the long-term procurement process. Engagement activities, such as information sessions, will be held with municipalities and Indigenous communities. There will also be separate, more direct sessions that will consider the unique context of each type of participant group.

Register for Part I: Overview Presentation from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
This session invites municipalities and Indigenous communities to hear about the IESO’s initiatives underway to secure new electricity supply as well as an update on the long-term procurements process, including the E-LT1 RFP and upcoming LT1 RFP.

Register for Part II: Discussion with Municipalities from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
This session is designed for municipalities to ask questions and learn more about the LT1 RFP and the information you might need in order to prepare for the procurement process. (A separate, targeted discussion will also be held with Indigenous Communities.)
