ELLENSBURG, Wash (May. 4) – The Central Washington University Track and Field team eagerly awaits to host the Last Chance Open this coming weekend, but a small fraction of the team has already completed an event earlier this week.
The Great Northwest Combined Event Championships were held last Monday and Tuesday in Lacey, Wash on the campus of Saint Martin's University, as four Wildcats competed among the top athletes around the conference.
Kodiak Landis and
Ali Anderson each earned all-conference honors as both athletes captured third place finishes in their respective events.
Justin Peterson and
Michael Forster finished fourth and fifth overall in the men's decathlon.
Landis earned 6469 points en route to his third place finish. He finished second in both the 100 meter dash and 400 meter dash and the pole vault. The added more points with third place finishes in the 110 meter hurdles, high jump and the long jump.
"Landis did a great job scoring in a lot of events," Assistant coach
Brittany Aanstad said. "He was constantly placing in the top half of each event, and over the course of the event, that helps the overall score."
Ali Anderson scored 4327 points for her third place overall finish. She captured a first place finish in the 800 meter run and the long jump coupled with a second place finishes the 200 meter dash.
"It was a great meet overall," Aanstad said. "There was some strong competition down there this week. It was great to see Kodiak and Ali earn all-conference honors."
The Wildcats will host the final meet before the GNAC Championships which will be held May. 13-14 in Monmouth, OR.
