In the video for Russian pop duo t.A.T.u.‘s first hit “All The Things She Said” — which peaked at No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 more than 10 years ago — Yulia Volkova and her band mate Lena Katina kissed and ran around in the rain. Despite playing up the image, the duo later admitted they were only implying a lesbian relationship in order to drum up publicity.
Now they’re in the news again because Volkova appeared on Russian TV and declared she “won’t accept a gay son.” You can watch the Volkova’s interview here. It’s in Russian, but Billboard has confirmed the translation on YouTube is correct.
After her comment, Volkova attempted to further explain her views to a justifiably confused interviewer: “A man has no right to be a f-g,” she said. “Two girls together — not the same thing as the two men together. It seems to me that lesbians look aesthetically much nicer than two men holding their hands or kissing.”
She went on to add, “I want to say that I’m not against gays.” Volkova apparently has “many gay friends” and “believes that being gay is all still better than murderers, thieves or drug addicts. If you choose out of all this, being gay a little better than the rest.”

Maybe this represents all the things she shouldn’t have said.
