Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 hasn't been confirmed by Lucasfilm and Disney, but that finale has certainly got us thinking there could be more adventures to come.

The show was described as a "limited" series, but director Deborah Chow has admitted that the story isn't necessarily over. "I mean, there are of course more stories that you could tell," she told Radio Times.

"There's obviously another 10 years before we get to A New Hope and with a character like Obi-Wan Kenobi, I think even just watching him ride across the sand sometimes is interesting. So, who knows? It's hard to say right now, but it was not the intention."

Anything's possible in a galaxy far, far away, especially given how well Obi-Wan Kenobi has been received by fans. So will the show pop back for a second season like a cheeky Force Ghost, or is this the end of Ewan McGregor's journey in this role?

Here's everything you need to know about Obi-Wan Kenobi's potential season two and how the finale sets it up. Major spoilers for episode six ahead.

Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 potential release date: When will Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 be on Disney+?

Traditional network shows tend to air about a year apart, but given Obi-Wan Kenobi's home is Disney+, not to mention its status as a limited series, new episodes could take up to 18 months minimum.

And that's assuming Obi-Wan will even pull on that comfy old Jedi cloak again for another round with Darth Vader.

Unlike Loki, which announced its second season as a surprise credit scene in the finale, there was no confirmation of season two in Obi-Wan Kenobi's final episode – as much as you might have wanted it.

Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 cast: Who is returning for Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2?

The final episode passed off without any deaths, even Moses Ingram's Reva managed to survive after seeing the error of her ways and refusing to kill Luke once she had tracked him down on Tatooine.

So that leaves a full cast to potentially return if the show comes back for a second season:

• Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi
• Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader
• Moses Ingram as Reva
• James Earl Jones voices Darth Vader
• Vivien Lyra Blair as Leia Organa
• Moses Ingram as Reva Sevander / Third Sister
• Rupert Friend as the Grand Inquisitor
• Sung Kang as Fifth Brother
• Joel Edgerton as Owen Lars
• Kumail Nanjiani as Haja Estree

Unfortunately, it looks like we've seen the last of Indira Varma in the role of Tala Durith. The selfless Rebel hero sacrificed her life in episode five, so she probably won't return for season two, unless some flashbacks give her an excuse to reappear.

We could well see Liam Neeson return as Qui-Gon Jinn after his surprise appearance as a Force Ghost in the first season's finale. "We've got a ways to go," he tells Obi-Wan which certainly sounds like he'd be back.

Talking of surprise appearances, the finale also saw Ian McDiarmid appear as Palpatine, so if Vader is back, his Master won't be far behind in season two...

Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 plot: What will happen in Obi-Wan season 2?

We could see pretty much anything in season two as there's not really any plot lines left dangling after the first season's finale.

The show did a good job of wrapping up any issues you might have had of it breaking Star Wars canon, such as Obi-Wan telling Leia that she's got to be careful as if anybody found out her connection to Obi-Wan, they might both be in danger.

Season two could just be Obi-Wan out on adventures, guided by Qui-Gon, or maybe he'll even team up with Reva as she finds out her place in the world. "Who you become now, that is up to you. Now you're free. We both are," he tells her.

But maybe the show's future doesn't lie with Obi-Wan, after all. What if Hayden Christensen took centre stage as Darth Vader instead? When we asked the Anakin star this very question, he told Digital Spy that, "If the opportunity presents itself, I would be all for it."

"I think this is a character that is very complex," he continued, "and there's a lot there to further explore. If the powers that be were so inclined, I would be so excited to get to do so."

As would we all!

Vader is dissuaded from relentlessly hunting down Obi-Wan by Palpatine, but that doesn't mean he'll pay attention, so he could be back to cause some trouble for Obi-Wan.

Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 trailer: Any Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 footage yet?

Disney are pretty cagey when it comes to their big Star Wars properties, so new trailer footage probably won't surface online until around a month before season two launches.

And again, that's assuming new adventures are even on the cards for this curmudgeonly old Jedi.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is now available to stream on Disney+. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the entire Skywalker Saga are available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K now, as well as on Disney+.
