This evening, Inter faced off against Sassuolo in match-day six of the Serie A. Inter went into the game high in confidence after a perfect start to the league season, winning five from five and sitting top of the table.
Sassuolo on the other hand had endured a mixed start to the campaign. Three defeats and two wins meant that they were sitting mid-table and looking for a statement win.
The first half of the game was fairly quiet. Not much in the way of chances or excitement, until the first minute of added time when Denzel Dumfries opened the scoring, following an assist from Marcus Thuram. The goal was a good display of patience and accuracy from Dumfries, but the defending left a lot to be desired.
The second half of the match was far more enthralling. Sassuolo came out quickly and equalised within 10 minutes of the restart. Nedim Bajrami capped off a truly lovely bit of team build up. Yann Sommer will be disappointed with himself for his work on the goal, but Sassuolo equalised nevertheless.
The away team were high in confidence after getting the goal, and Alessio Dionisi made two quick substitutions to try and put his side ahead. The changes paid dividends as in the 63rd minute Domenico Berardi scored a beautiful finesse shot.
That goal rocked Inter, and Simone Inzaghi decided to make four changes in one go. Alexis Sánchez and Davide Frattesi were two of the players who came on, looking to put Inter back level.
Inzaghi got booked shortly after his side fell behind, and it began to look a long road back for Inter. They didn’t create much in the final 20 minutes of the game and it finished 2-1.
The Nerazzurri suffered their first loss of the season, but remain top of the league on goal difference. Sassuolo have moved up to eighth. Domenico Berardi finished the game with a goal and assist and was the star man.
