Hi, my name is Joanna and I'm the founder of Hot Flow Yoga in Amsterdam.
Why we are in need of funds
2022 has been tough to say the least, we are incredibly grateful to have re-opened our doors to our beloved Hot Flow Yoga Zuid studio since the COVID pandemic.
However, we are still trying to recover from the past two years of endless lockdowns. On top of that, being a hot yoga studio, the energy crisis we are currently facing has affected us significantly. Sadly, we can no longer meet our electricity bills as it has more than tripled, along with the inflation rate skyrocketing we find ourselves in a difficult position. We have tried to keep our membership prices the same to make Hot Flow Yoga as accessible as possible for all our members and to serve our community which we love and care for so much.
We survived the last three years through sheer will, determination and loyalty from the Hot Flow yoga community we love so much.
How it all started
I was born in Monterey, Mexico. I moved to London in 1997 alone at age 16 to chase my dream of being a professional ballet dancer. That dream was realised and I spent the next few years dancing for the English National Ballet, HK Ballet, and in 2000 I moved to The Netherlands to dance for The Dutch National Ballet.
Yoga helped me throughout my ballet career both physically and mentally. When I got an injury that caused my ballet career to end, I found the resilience through yoga to continue, and it inspired me to want to share what yoga can do with others. I introduced Hot Vinyasa Yoga to Amsterdam and opened the first studio of its kind in 2012 - we had just celebrated our 10th anniversary of Hot Flow Yoga Zuid this past September!
I have spent my entire savings on keeping Hot Flow Yoga in operation. However, to continue to stay open, we really need your help!
We employ 20 wonderful yoga teachers who depend on Hot Flow Zuid for their income - If Zuid closes down, they’ll lose their jobs.
Costs - Total of €27,000
- €10,000 in refurbishment costs - prior to COVID-19 and the energy crisis, we had made plans to renovate and upgrade the Zuid studio space. However, due to those issues, I instead had to spend all of my savings into keeping Hot Flow Zuid open. The plan is to renovate the entrance so there is a welcoming area separate from the studio and to improve the practice space. We are so excited to share a fresh new look and energy with you all!
- €17,000 to bridge the gap in our increased energy costs until the renovation is complete, as our electricity bill has more than tripled! With this, we can focus on thriving and not just surviving with our wonderful Hot Flow Yoga community.

The pricing above is lower than our current offering and we will also be increasing our prices from Jan 2023.
All the class cards you buy will only activate when you participate in your first class. You can buy more than one to use later. The passes are valid for six months from activation and can be used once per week (other than the full year unlimited pass).
