On November 2nd at the State of Downtown event at the The City Club of Cleveland, Downtown Cleveland Inc. released their Downtown Cleveland Retail Strategy with the help of Streetsense, a New York City based consulting firm. The 15 point revitalization plan includes retail attraction and retention, public realm improvements, and marketing, promotion and activation that put a special focus on the hubs and connectors of downtown including the Gateway District, Warehouse District, the East 9th St. bridge, Euclid Ave.,and Huron Rd. The plan includes establishing a night market that caters to visitors and residents through an expansion of downtown offerings. According to the plan, “Night markets offer low barriers to entry for small, often undercapitalized businesses while giving them an opportunity to develop a following that might support moving up to a brick-and-mortar space.” Recently, The Land caught up with two small downtown retailers to find out what they thought of the plan, how their businesses are going, and what’s next for them and downtown retail. North Town Center, SOLD for $24.65 Million. A grocery-anchored shopping center with 115,000 sf located at Stratford CT is one of the most desirable shopping centers in the area, given the positioning within the submarket. Totaling 115,000 s/f, North Town Center is 93% occupied by a mix of local and national retail tenants. The asset has been anchored by Big Y since 2008 when the grocery took occupancy and has historically performed well. As a testament to the asset’s viability, Town Line Liquors and Town Fair Tire have operated at this site for over a decade and XGolf recently executed a long-term lease. North Town Center fills a significant void in the retail market that is triangulated by three major highways – CT-15 (Merritt Pkwy.), CT-8 and I-95. This confluence of roadways allows the asset to draw from a trade area that stretches into the communities of Trumbull, Stratford, Shelton, Milford and Bridgeport. Evidence of this geographic draw, the immediate area includes a number of category leading retailers. https://lnkd.in/gKsUcXyH #soldproperty #property #investment #building #retailcenter #shoppingcenter #milliondollarbuilding #realestate #industrialrealestate #industrialrealestateupdates #investmentproperty

For years, retailers have flocked to set up shop in “it” neighborhoods in New York City. Before the #pandemic, as well as during the first couple years of its recovery, #Soho and #Nolita reigned supreme, with Valentino, Wilson Sporting Goods Co. and Vuori all opening stores there. #Williamsburg has also been buzzy among #DTC businesses, thanks to its chic cafes, thrift stores and waterfront views. Now, tides are shifting, and brands of all types and sizes — not just high-end ones — are making the move to #Midtown. Much of this is due to a major revamping of Rockefeller Center, which encompasses six square blocks. All in all, it’s a promising sign for the continued post-pandemic recovery of New York City, one of retail’s biggest markets and a major business capital. Read more: https://buff.ly/4aBhrPp

The most sustainable building is an existing building and adaptive reuse allows what’s old to be new again.
Yesterday, EDENS' Senior VP of Development Thomas Picarsic gave tour-goers a look at retail development in Denver's RiNo neighborhood. From a look at retailers like Patagonia and Burton that have been operating for a few years to buildings currently under construction, we learned what EDENS is doing to bring more retail to the area while preserving the character of the buildings. #DenverArchitecture #DenverArchitectureFoundation #DAF #RiverNorth #EDENS #DenverRetail
