Congratulations to Mariam Pirveli (LLM '24) on being selected to participate in this summer's Edmund S. Muskie Professional Fellowship Program. Pirveli, a native of Georgia, is a graduate of Ilia State University, the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs and the Anglo-American University in Prague. She has worked as an attorney for the Bank of Georgia and in private practice at Kordzadze Law Office in Tbilisi. She also was a participant in the 18th Willem C. Vis arbitration moot.
Meet the 2022-23 Nehru Fellows!
Swati Singh Bisen, LLM (International Law), Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy with Cross Masters’, Harvard Law; Lecturer at Jindal Global Law School, Internal Consultant at UNESCO, Paris.
"Like many Indians, I have consistently found political discussions to be highly captivating. My genuine interest in this field naturally drew me closer to it, but it is the fellowship that has truly immersed me in its intricacies. No other fellowship provides such a comprehensive experience in the diverse aspects of political consulting. The most rewarding aspect, in my opinion, lies in the direct learning from the pioneers of this field, who constantly inspire us to think bigger and better."
Applications are now open for 2023-24.

Flexible, friendly, reliable & responsive lawyer advising on business, projects, transactions and agreements in SK, AB, ON – husband, father of 3, supporter of women, Indigenous peoples, newcomers, rural folks & Finland
Procido LLP Summer Student, Fatima Ahmed shares some of her thoughts and experience regarding the intersection of Inuit traditional knowledge with Islamic legal maxims in this article.
As certain countries encroach further into the Arctic region, Northern countries like Canada and Finland are preparing. As Honorary Consul for Finland in the Northwest territories, I know that the creation and interpretation of laws will be at the forefront of development of one of the final frontiers on planet earth. Learning existing traditional Inuit knowledge and understanding how that intersects with other global ideological frameworks such as Islam is a good starting point to gain understanding of laws.
Now, more than ever, with the transparency of globalization waning, seemingly distant ideas and groups are unexpectedly having a real effect on individuals and businesses locally. Anticipating these effects can make the difference in success or failure.
A core value of Procido LLP is that diversity is a strength - not a weakness. The firm is more than just technicians applying rote memory, logic, and analytical reasoning (though we like, and do that well ;). One of our defining characteristics is that we apply these hard-earned technical skills within a broader understanding of global forces and ideological frameworks. We embrace this broader perspective, to better identify risks further into the future for our clients and offer innovative solutions relevant to your business, transaction, contract, dispute, or project.
Meet: Yumiko – exchange student from Tokyo
Bucerius Law School welcomes exchange students from all over the world to Hamburg each fall while its LLB students study abroad.
"I believe that studying in a country means having a connection with that country, which, in turn, can strengthen the relationship between countries beyond governmental diplomacy. I think it is important to establish grassroots contacts in as many countries as possible under the recent rapidly changing situation.
I am the first Japanese exchange student at Bucerius. That is why I have gained so much from this program and stay. I hope that more and more Japanese people will jump into an unprecedented environment and that the grassroots relationship with Germany will grow even stronger."

[International Cape Town Convention Moot Court Competition 2023]
I'm excited to share that Team Advance Tertiary College has emerged as the 2nd runner-up in the inaugural International Cape Town Convention Moot Competition 2023 by Asian Law Students' Association (Malaysia) that happened on the 21st and 28th of October at Asian International Arbitration Centre .
This is my third mooting competition and in this event, I took on the dual role of lead counsel and coach, adding a new dimension to my mooting journey.
I'd like to extend my heartfelt thanks to my incredible teammates, Amelia, Paramjoth Kaur, and Johnson. Your unwavering dedication and teamwork were key to our success. I truly appreciate the countless hours that were devoted to the preparation and practice.
Next, a big shout-out to my fellow co-coach, Tan Qian Hui, who was always there to provide invaluable assistance. Without your support, we wouldn't have made it this far. Thank you for putting in all your effort, time and knowledge just to make sure we are prepared and ready to go.
This competition is a special one. I'm delighted to have reconnected with old friends and, fortunately, become their opponent. I hope for more interactions in the future, whether in our studies, moot competitions, or our careers.
Lastly, I'd like to share some of my takeaways from this competition:
1️⃣ Moot competitions can be prepared in just 2 weeks.
2️⃣ Juggling the roles of a mooter and coach isn't easy; it's challenging to switch between the two.
3️⃣ Sleep might not have been essential during this journey, but the experience was definitely worth it!
