Andro Wekua

Andro Wekua

This extensive, large-format catalogue raisonné of the oeuvre of Andro Wekua, an artist originally from Georgia, presents the works to optimum effect thanks to its restrained design and excellent image sequences. The red-and-black hardcover bears a screen-printed collage beneath the embossed artist’s name and comes across as strident; inside, however, the design is calm and spacious, with large areas of white. The first section reproduces double pages from one of Wekua’s current sketchbooks on uncoated paper, each displaying a collage of between one and ten cropped images. The very extensive section that follows presents reproductions, exhibition views and details of works spanning 15 years, mostly with one or two large illustrations freely arranged on a double page. A slender, purely typographical section at the end comprises densely packed pages of uniformly typeset accompanying texts and information. The three sections are separated by a page printed in silver on one side, emphasising the strong awareness of material properties and the restrained way in which they are used. This monumental volume fits into the publication practice of the two well established galleries behind it.
