Star Wars fans will be happy. After the success of the Mandalorian and the adorable Grogu - alias Baby Yoda - Disney is quickly preparing a new show about Obi-Wan Kenobi. Sixteen years after Tevenge of the Sith, the most popular Jedi of all time will soon take us on another adventure in a faraway galaxy. Here is everything you need to know about this exciting project.

Disney has revealed the cast

After months of waiting, Disney has finally revealed the five-star cast of its new Star Wars project. Two years ago, Ewan McGregor confirmed he would be back to play the iconic Jedi. As he one of the most popular characters of the Star Wars universe, it is hardly surprising that the news that he would be back as Obi-Wan Kenobi nearly broke the internet. Another exciting return: Hayden Christensen, alias Anakin Skywalker. The Canadian actor will reprise his role as Dark Vador. He will be joined by two other actors who will also be returning to the saga, Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse, as uncle Owen and aunt Beru, charged with taking care of young Luke Skywalker. Other stars have been cast, although their role has not yet been announced. Moses Ingram spotted in The Queen's Gambit, Indira Varma from Game of Thrones, Rupert Friend, Kumail Nanjiani, Sung Kang, Simone Kessel, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Benny Safdie… a diverse team for an exciting project.

The Plot

Announced in 2019 by Kathleen Kennedy and Ewan McGregor, Obi-Wan Kenobi went through several rewriting phases. As production is finally starting this month, we now know a bit more about the show by Deborah Chow. The screenwriter and filmmaker is familiar with the universe created by George Lucas since she has already worked on several episodes of the Mandalorian. This new program happens after Revenge of the Sith and eleven years after Episode IV. Luke Skywalker is eight years old, but nobody knows if the character will appear in the show. The Jedi Order has been hit and Obi-Wan Kenobi is exiled on Tatooine in order to protect the son of his old student, who joined the dark side of the Force. When he was a guest on the Graham Norton’s Show in October 2020, Ewan McGregor was rather secretive, stressing that the plot would not only be centered on his character. Planned as a single season of six episodes, the adventures of the Jedi master happen in a galaxy under the role of Dark Sidious. The show should arrive on Disney+ in 2022.

Star Wars projects

Bought from George Lucas in 2012 for 4 billion dollars, Star Wars couldn't even with a simple trilogy. To optimise the investment, Disney is planning several big projects. After Mandalorian and Obi-Wan Kenobi, many other new projects are in the works: the book of Boba Fett (it should be released later this year), The High Republic that happens 200 years before Episode I, a Rogue One prequel about Cassian Andor, the Rangers of the New Republic as well as a show about Ahsoka Tano are all planned.
