Why Call Of Duty: Mobile Controller Support Doesn't Work

Call of Duty: Mobile players are having trouble connecting controllers following an update--Activision VP of Mobile says it's still being tested.

Update: Call of Duty: Mobile controller support could eventually return, according to Activision VP of Mobile Chris Plummer. In an interview with Hypebeast, Plummer stressed the importance of "fair balance" in Call of Duty: Mobile, and stated that controller support is currently being tested "with a portion" of players.

If Call of Duty: Mobile does implement controller support again, it would probably be in the form of separate game lobbies, says Plummer. Currently, Call of Duty: Mobile separates first-person players and third-person players in its Battle Royale mode to maintain a level playing field for players no matter their preference. Players using controllers and players using the default touch-based control scheme would be split up in a similar way, to keep things fair for everyone.

Activision did not provide a timeframe for when Call of Duty: Mobile controller support would return. For now, players can still adjust their touch-based control preferences in the options menu by selecting either "simple," for automatic fire, or "advanced," for more precision-based manual fire.

If you were wondering how to play Call of Duty: Mobile with a controller, it seems it won't be possible after a recent update. Following a bumpy launch early Tuesday, an Activision Support representative replied to a Twitter user that controller support "is no longer supported," which has caused some confusion among the community.

The menu option for "Controller" has also been replaced with a blank "Other" screen.

It is not clear whether or not the CoD Mobile controller support update is temporary or permanent. GameSpot has reached out to Activision for clarification.

In the meantime, fans who are less inclined to use the free-to-play shooter's touch controls have taken to Reddit to lament the change.

Call of Duty: Mobile is a free-to-play shooter based on the popular Call of Duty franchise and developed by Tencent Games and Timi Studios. It launched Tuesday morning on iOS and Android after some initial server issues had players stuck at the start screen.
