October 26, 2020This book provides a good overview of astrology. At times I felt that some of the descriptions were quite generic and shallow, however given the breadth of topics covered in this book it's kind of understandable.
If you are just getting into astrology, this is a good place to start. If you are looking for a more in depth understanding, this may not be the book for you, though it may still provide some value.
Brilliant Book.

November 23, 2014I bought this book for the sole reason that it was advertised as coming with a CD of astrology software. And despite the book being advertised as "in stock" (don't they all say that) I still had to wait 3 weeks while it was ordered in, which is annoying (AND deceptive). Of course, when it finally did arrive, there was no CD, but emblazoned across the front of the book "21st CENTURY EDITION". Which translated to the CD having now been replaced with just a link to a website (this factor mentioned many times) but nowhere within the book was the actual website name or address printed!!
So, after much hunting around, I finally located the website and (surprise, surprise)...it didn't work. Thoroughly annoyed, I emailed the publisher Taylor Trade Publishing/The Rowman & Littlefield Group and got a prompt and helpful reply (I think they were used to this happening) offering to mail the CD, which I did receive a short while later, but it was not worth the trouble I'd gone to. All it had on it was a chart creator (no interpretations). You'd get a better chart (& extensive range of them) at Astrodienst's excellent (and free) website. To the book itself - it covered a little about a lot. If you were just beginning your studies (& definitely if there were no such thing as the Internet) it would be a very good starting point, because it covered a lot of the basics. As far as anything more advanced, certainly anything more complex such as transits and natal chart aspects and interpretation, you won't find it here. Inter-aspects - which are the whole basis for interpretation - are covered in just 6 short pages. Robert Hand's "Planets in Transit" runs to 530 pages (just on aspects). So, comprehensive it most definitely isn't. A good starter that covers a lot of basics, it is (& even though it was written in 1982, those astrology basics never change). The Publisher and author however should address the major issue of misrepresentation. Cynically I suspect they intentionally prefer not to because chances are that once you've received the book (sans CD) you probably won't be bothered returning it. It's deceptive tactics (which, sadly, these days, seems perfectly acceptable to some people).
